The Legend of Patupaiarehe
The Legend of Patupaiarehe
Following the COVID-19 pandemic, many rangatahi have lost their sense of social connection and are seeking opportunities to reconnect with others. This project highlights Spark’s 5G technology and aims to provide a foundation for new social interactions. “The Legend of Patupaiarehe” is a 5G-powered projection-mapped escape room designed to reintroduce rangatahi to the possibilities of 5G while encouraging meaningful social connections through an immersive and collaborative experience.

Experience
Experience
This project was developed in collaboration with Spark NZ as part of an MDS client brief. Over an 8-week period, our team tackled a real-world problem through a creative design solution tailored to our target audience.
We proposed a 3D projection-mapped escape room inspired by the Māori myth of the Patupaiarehe.
My primary role was to design and produce the motion mockup and walkthrough video, showcasing how the audience would interact with the escape room experience. To achieve this, I used Blender for 3D visualization and After Effects for motion design and sequencing. I crafted a narrative-driven walkthrough, highlighting the player's journey as they solved puzzles and progressed through the immersive space.
Throughout the process, we explored a wide range of ideas and directions, constantly iterating to align the concept with Spark's brand identity. This experience helped me understand the value of brand coherence in storytelling and the importance of aligning creative direction with client expectations.

Reflecting on the project, I saw the potential to create an even more immersive experience by combining advanced motion graphics with more dynamic 3D elements. This inspired me to further explore 3D production and deepen my skills in motion design to enhance future walkthrough mockups and narrative-driven visual storytelling.
